We offer MLS (Multiwave Locked System) laser therapy at Stal De Oude Meerdijk. The MLS is a separate class among the High Power Lasers. It combines, by simultaneously using different wavelengths, the properties of Low Level laser therapy and High Power laser. The MLS Laser distinguishes itself from other High Power laser devices by its safe application. There is no risk of heat damage with the MLS laser because a combination of continuous and pulsed radiation is used. This allows the MLS Laser to be dosed very specifically and still has a quick effect on edema (swelling), pain and inflammation.
Laser therapy works in different ways on the tissue to quickly reduce inflammation, edema and pain. The effects that we distinguish are the photochemical effect (photo = by the light), photothermic effect, photomechanical effect and an anti-inflammatory effect.
The laser light used in laser therapy affects the tissues in different ways. First of all, the photochemical effect ensures that more energy is released for the tissues. In addition, the pain threshold is increased, which quickly produces a pain-relieving effect.
In addition to a chemical response, a thermal response also occurs. The local temperature increase causes the vessels to dilate (vasodilation) and improves circulation. This increases the amount of oxygen and nutrients in the tissue, but also causes lactate (which is created when tissues become acidic) to be washed out more quickly. These effects allow the cells to recover more quickly and edema to be drained more quickly.
The photothermal effect also has an indirect mechanical effect on the cells. The local temperature differences caused by the laser light stimulate the cells in performing and maintaining their normal functions. The effectiveness of the normal cell function is therefore stimulated, which allows tissues to recover better.
Laser therapy also has an anti-inflammatory effect by directly increasing one of the regulatory anti-inflammatory proteins. This regulatory protein indirectly ensures a decrease in the inflammatory reaction in the tissues. This allows the blood flow to recover and edema to be better drained. Decreased edema also in turn ensures a decrease in pain (because there is less tension in the tissue).
Due to the wide range of effects of laser light, laser therapy can be used for many different problems. For example, laser therapy has proven to be effective in the treatment of wounds and edema, but also for various orthopedic problems. Laser therapy is a beautiful and easy to apply technique for tendon injuries and muscle problems. It can also be used for the treatment of trigger points, sprains and crooked joints.
If you wish to use our laser therapy, we will first draw up a treatment plan in consultation with your veterinarian, depending on the problem, so that we can support/accelerate the horse's rehabilitation in the most effective way possible.
Of course you can also make an appointment to have your horse's muscles loosened up by laser therapy so that he can get rid of waste products more easily and move freely and relaxed through his body again.
